As a woman, mother, wife, and lawyer, I've come to deeply appreciate the transformative power of regular exercise—not just for physical health, but for mental and emotional strength as well. As a life coach, I advocate for the power of regular exercise, as it's more than just a routine; it's my beautifying drug. Struggling to balance a healthy lifestyle with a busy family life is a common challenge for many parents. Despite this, I've learned from my own journey in sports that it's not only possible but incredibly rewarding. Let me share how it has transformed not just my body, but also my life, and offer some tips to enhance your life satisfaction.
Personal Journey of Regular Exercise
My special relationship with sports began in a Soviet school PE class, deeply influenced by my father, a devoted tennis player. At the age of 7, I was enrolled in a tennis class. The training was intense, but the highlight for me was wearing my beautiful white tennis skirt, which made me feel like a star, echoing the pride and dedication I saw in my father. This early experience was the foundation of my lifelong love for a range of sports, from ballet to combat sports. Influenced by the strong role models in my parents, I learned the importance of resilience and self-care.
Flexibility Workout: The Power of Mindfulness

Incorporating yoga into my mornings improved not just my flexibility but also brought a newfound sense of calm and mental clarity. Each yoga pose and breath became an act of self-care, enhancing both my inner and outer beauty. Yoga was particularly supportive during my pregnancy and in the first year after childbirth. As a fitness enthusiast, I am a big fan of Les Mills. Their BODYBALANCE program, blending yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates, is my favorite flexibility workout. Swimming offered a peaceful yet powerful way to exercise, with the rhythm of strokes and the quiet under the water providing a meditative experience that strengthened my body and calmed my mind.
Strength Training: More than Muscle Tone

Strength training, often perceived as just a muscle-toning exercise, did much more for me. Boxing and martial arts, in particular, not only built my physical strength but also instilled a sense of resilience and confidence. The Les Mills BODYCOMBAT program became my favorite. Additionally, classic Russian ballet, demanding grace, discipline, and strength, shaped not only my physique but also deepened my appreciation for my culture and its perception of beauty.
Cardiovascular Exercises: A Natural Glow

Cardiovascular activities like Zumba and Les Mills BODYJAM improved my stamina and gave my skin a natural, healthy glow – surpassing any cosmetic product I've tried. The endorphin rush from dancing is an unbeatable mood booster, making each session a joy.
Empowerment Through Parenting and Fitness

As a parent, I realized the incredible opportunity to impart these values to my children. It's about more than just exercising; it's about showing our children, especially our daughters, the strength and grace of a person who prioritizes self-care. This includes setting boundaries, self-care, and finding joy in our physical abilities. My experiences have significantly shaped my approach to parenting and fitness, emphasizing the importance of leading by example and making physical activity a shared family experience.
The Recipe of Your Healthy Elixir
Embrace activities that make you feel strong and joyful. Whether it’s yoga, running, or team sports, choose what resonates with you.
Involve your children in your fitness journey. This is a powerful way to teach them about self-love and body positivity.
Share your fitness challenges and victories with your children. Let them see your strength, your perseverance, and also your vulnerability.
Celebrate your progress, no matter how small. This journey is as much about mental and emotional growth as it is about physical fitness.
Choose family-friendly activities. Start with activities that are fun for all ages, like swimming or biking.
Make exercise a game. Create little challenges or playful competitions to keep your children engaged.
Involve them in your routine. Let your children see you exercise; better yet, include them in your workouts, even if it's just simple stretches or yoga.
Be practical and sthrengen your bond. Consider enrolling all family members in the same fitness club or workouts to save on budget and enhance your relationships. My husband, for instance, wanted to join me in Zumba classes, adding a fun dimension to our fitness routine.
Consistency is key. Regularly set aside time for family sports, making it as routine as family dinners.
Challenges and Solutions
If you're facing time constraints, try short, high-energy activities like a 10-minute dance-off. For varying interests, rotate the activity choice among family members to ensure everyone's preferences are considered. Balancing family life, work, and fitness can be challenging, but integrating exercise into your daily routine, like a family walk or a dance session, focuses on quality over quantity.
