Being a parent is a full-time job in itself. Yet many of us have a unique career passion burning within us – a dream job we've always envisioned for ourselves. From opening business to writing bestselling novels or becoming social media influencer, the dreams are as varied as they are personal. But how to pursue these dreams while balancing the immense responsibilities and managing the joyful whirlwind of parenthood? That's what we're here to explore today. So, grab a cup of your favorite brew, put your feet up, and join me as we chart a roadmap to ignite your career passion!
1. Reflect: Your Dream Job Starts Here

Our journey begins with a quiet moment of introspection. As a parent, your days might be filled with the delightful chaos of raising children. Amid this, it can be easy to lose the sight of what lights up your soul. But it's exactly that spark we're trying to find. So, I invite you to take a deep breath, maybe once the kids are in bed or during a quiet afternoon while they're at school, and reflect - what makes your heart race with excitement? Is it the idea of guiding a plane through the clouds, the thought of penning stories that can touch millions of hearts, or maybe you're still brewing the idea of becoming an interior designer?
In my case, the desire to help people led me to a fulfilling profession of a human rights lawyer. Yet, after having built my successful legal career and becoming a mom for the second time, I felt a new passion ignite - to share my personal experience and journey with fellow parents. This inner spark evolved into my passion (maternity) project and the second dream job - a life coach for parents. This new path doesn't just satisfy my personal aspirations but also harmonizes beautifully with my job of a mother. Just like me, your dream job shouldn't feel like a chore - it should be something that not only satisfies your professional aspirations but also nurtures your souls and fits your role of a parent. It's about finding what sets your spirit ablaze, fuels your passion, and aligns with the values you want to impart to your children.
2. Evaluate: Harness Your Natural Talents

The next stop on your roadmap is a deep dive into your natural talents. I'd always been good at analising, empathising, resolving conflicts and understanding multiple perspectives - skills that served me well in my legal career. Maybe you're a master of organization, a culinary genius, or someone with the magic touch when it comes to technology. Or you play guitar so naturally or have a voice that can make hearts soar. These talents are your unique gifts - your personal toolbox for carving out your dream career. As a parent, you might have discovered abilities you never knew you had. Maybe you've found that you're remarkably patient, a master multitasker, or perhaps you have a knack for explaining complex concepts to your curious kids. Whatever your talents, they can become your superpowers in your dream career.
3. Explore and Experiment: Your Dream Job in Action

This stage invites you to step into the world of your dream job. It's about seeking out experiences that align with your career aspirations. Maybe it means attending a workshop, signing up for an online course, or starting a passion project during nap times. As a busy parent, your time is precious, so choose activities that yield the highest return in terms of insights and skill-building. My foray into life coaching started as a passion project during my maternity leave. This phase of exploration and experimentation proved invaluable, offering me a taste of what my additional profession held in store.
4. Network and Engage

It's time to open your world to the people already thriving in your desired field. Networking may seem daunting, especially when you're juggling the myriad responsibilities of parenthood. But in the digital age, networking has become more accessible than ever. Join online forums, engage in social media communities, or attend virtual conferences. You'll be surprised by how much you can learn in a short "coffee chat" during your child's playtime.
5. Work with Life Coach: Navigate the Career Path
As you venture closer to your dream job, consider getting a co-pilot – a life coach. Pursuing a new career while parenting can sometimes feel overwhelming. That's where a life coach comes in. A coach can provide objective insights, offer proven strategies, and be the supportive presence you need on this journey. Remember, a life coach isn't there to direct you, but to empower you, helping you to uncover your own wisdom, anticipate potential roadblocks, and tailor a path that suits you best. As someone who has gone through this journey, I can tell you that having a life coach can be a true game-changer!
